Jono Hersey

Our Team

Jono

Like many South Australians, Jonathan 'Jono' Hersey's introduction to wine involved sneaking into the cellar. While most lads grabbed a bottle of big Shiraz or a Sauvignon Blanc from their parent's stash, the cellar in this story was at the home of Jono's great friend Sam Barry who took wonderful bottles of mid '90s Domaine Leflaive and other equally special and exciting bottles. Once Sam's father figured out the game, he sat them down and said "If you boys get off on it, go for your life!". Weekends were often spent in the Clare Valley, tasting the local produce during the day before heading back to the homestead for the great wines of the world to reveal themselves.

Jono's career began in 2010 when he juggled numerous vineyard and winery jobs in the Adelaide Hills. To fund his particular thirst for Burgundy, he also worked evenings and weekends at various fine wine retailers. Since then Jono has worked in wholesale, as a sommelier, at further fine wine retailers interstate, before moving into business. In addition to distribution and a short stint as a publican, he established Hersey Vineyard together with his family in 2014; an abandoned vineyard, restored, planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Hersey Vineyard is still going strong today with Jono's dad, Garry, kept busy with deliveries when he's not fixing broken posts!

In 2018, Jono joined forces with some fellow Francophiles to carry on the infamous work of Ross Duke at The French Wine Centre, a wine import business that specialises in Champagne, Chablis and Burgundy, with good representation in other French wine regions as well.

While Jono has an overwhelming love for French wine, there is a little known fact that he adores aged and fine wine from the globe over, and that's how the Oddbins partnership began!

Adrienne, Wine Valuer and Auction Manager

Adrienne has been with Oddbins Wine Auctions for 12 years and has had a love affair with Champagne ever since watching Absolutely Fabulous. Her Irish dad was a publican so she grew up being taught that good wine and food can make anyone smile.

Adrienne also sings with Adelaide folk rock band Spiral Dance, American old timey band Saltwater Taffy and women’s harmony group Ruby Moon. She is the director of the annual folk festival event The English Ale, held in the Adelaide Hills at Mylor each year in May.

Seng (SK), Wine Valuer and Auction Manager

Seng is known as 'SK'. He is Malaysian and speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and English proficiently. Although wine culture is not strongly embedded in his South East Asian heritage, he is passionate about food and wine as well as design given a background in architecture. He has been fascinated with romanticism in Australian architecture, the landscape and winemaking since moving to Australia ten years ago to study. SK stumbled across the wine industry by accident when he joined Oddbins and has enjoyed learning how wine businesses are run and developing his tasting skills (slowly but surely) ever since.

SK is ethically driven and coming from architecture, is pragmatic and brings finesse and solutions to his daily work in customer service and in the warehouse.
